Sun East would like to thank our member-owners for your trust and ongoing support, as well as your feedback on our previous communications regarding the safety and soundness of your credit union in the wake of this week’s banking crisis.

Through your feedback, we learned many of you were unaware that deposits at Sun East are insured for up to $500,000 versus the standard $250,000 at many other institutions; and, that you’d like more frequent reminders of benefits like that. We also heard that many of you were surprised, but very pleased to hear that credit union members have never lost a penny of insured savings at a federally insured credit union, like Sun East.

We appreciate your honest insights and your genuine desire to understand more about your member benefits; especially the security tools that come with your Sun East membership.

Many fraudsters will be looking to gain access to non-public, personal information as they exploit the recent banking crisis for their own monetary benefit, so here are some tools and tips you can use right away to help protect your accounts and personal information:

  • Account Alerts – you can customize the type of alerts you get when there’s activity on your Sun East share savings or share draft checking account and alerts can be sent directly to your cell phone or email.

  • SecurLOCK Equip – our mobile app solution gives you a simple and secure way to manage and monitor your debit and credit card activity, customized by you and easily downloaded via the App Store or Google Play.
  • eStatements – anyone can grab paper statements out of your mailbox; enroll in eStatements directly in online or mobile banking. You’ll get your monthly statements up to 3 days earlier and you’ll be able to access them at your fingertips.

  • Authentic emails from Sun East will include a Security Zone box in the footer.
  • Sun East will never call you and then ask you for your one-time verification code, PIN, password, or other personal identification details; if something feels strange, hang up immediately and contact us directly at 610-485-2960.
  • Sun East will never use pressure tactics to create a false sense of urgency; don’t let anyone pressure you into anything, especially giving out account information, unless you go directly to the source to verify the request is legitimate.
  • Beware of scammers who will likely attempt to contact those affected by the recent bank collapses, under the guise of offering support, legal services, loans, or reimbursements.
  • Beware of cryptocurrency scams falsely claiming that SVB is reimbursing its customers with USDC pay-outs.
  • If you receive an email requesting a wire transfer (involving SVB or any other financial institution), always verify the party requesting it by using a phone number obtained from a reliable source, such as the company’s official website or previously authenticated correspondence.

During this heightened period of potential fraud from external sources, we encourage you to be vigilant, ask questions, and deploy all the account protection tools at your disposal. If you should need assistance downloading an app or enrolling in a service, we’re here for you; you can live chat us online during normal business hours, stop by a branch in DE or PA, give us a call at 610-485-2960, follow us on social @SunEastFCU, or even set up a no-obligation consultation with one of our Sun East Retirement and Investment financial professionals.

We know you have many choices in financial institutions, so we’re honored that you continue to choose Sun East, now, and over the last 74 years; and, we’ll keep doing what it takes to ensure you have a stable, well-managed, fiscally responsible partner for the years to come!
